# [What Happens When the Other Side Goes Quiet](https://blog.anchorpointcommercial.com/blog/what-happens-when-the-other-side-goes-quiet)

Everything is moving. Then, without warning, the other side goes quiet. No return calls, no replies to texts or emails — just silence.

## A Real Example

In the middle of a lease assumption, the other party stopped responding entirely. Despite multiple attempts by phone, text, and email over several days, there was no reply — and no explanation.

## Why This Happens

Sometimes it's personal — something unrelated to the deal came up. Sometimes it's cold feet. Sometimes the other side found a better option and hasn't figured out how to say so. Occasionally, it really is just a scheduling gap that resolves on its own.

You often don't find out which one it is until much later — if at all.

## What to Do When It Happens to You

**Document every attempt.** Phone calls, texts, emails — all of it. If the deal needs to move in another direction, you want a clear record of good-faith effort.

**Set a real deadline.** Silence can drag on indefinitely if you let it. Give a specific date by which you need a response before pursuing other options.

**Keep other options warm.** Don't let one unresponsive party freeze the entire deal. If there are other paths forward, keep them alive in parallel.

**Loop in everyone who needs to know.** Landlords, other tenants, lenders — whoever is affected by the delay should be kept in the loop rather than left wondering.

## What This Means for You

Going quiet mid-deal happens more often than people expect, and it's rarely personal. The best protection isn't preventing it — it's having a clear process for what happens when it does.

**If someone went quiet on you mid-deal right now, would you know exactly what to do next?**

Dealing with an unresponsive party in the middle of a transaction? I can help you figure out the right next move.
